North Korea Claims it Has Test Fired a New Weapon

The Korean Central News Agency, run by the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the North Korean government, has announced that it has test fired a new tactical guided weapon.

The Associated Press relays that Kim Jong-Un observed the firing of the weapon by the Academy of Defense Science.

“[T]he development of the weapon system serves as an event of very weighty significance in increasing the combat power of the People’s Army.”

While it’s not clear if this test falls under the current ban on ballistic missile testing imposed by the United States, Time Magazine says that there have been recent reports of activity at missile research cites known for working on technology designed to target the United States. This unverified test maybe related.

Multiple news sources are reporting that the White House is aware of the test and has no comment at this time.

President Donald Trump has been pushing a narrative for many months through his Twitter account and at various fundraising events, that he has significantly changed relations with North Korth Korea to the point that there has been no more testing.
