Trending for some time on Twitter on Tuesday was the demand that, South Carolina Senator and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Lindsey Graham, needed to resign.
The trending hashtag #LindseyGrahamResign was started after the Washington Post reported that Graham, a day after he told Fox News, that if he was Donald Trump Jr’s attorney he’d advise him to ignore the Senate Intelligence Committee’s subpoena, said Monday, “You just show up and plead the Fifth and it’s over with. This whole thing is nuts,” Graham continued. “To me, it’s over.”
He also reportedly said that Jr’s lawyer “would have to be an idiot,” if he allowed him to testify.
In response to Graham’s Sunday and Monday Comments Democratic Coalition posted on Twitter.
Lindsey Graham should resign. Retweet if you agree. #LindseyGrahamResign— Democratic Coalition (@TheDemCoalition) May 14, 2019
Twitter responded by causing the hashtag to trend between number 1 and number 4 for most of Tuesday, with The Hill reporting that as many as 65,000 people using the hashtag.
Senator Lindsay Graham has openly encouraged Don Jr. to show up but to plead the 5th and refuse to testify. Why is Graham helping to cover up Don Jr.'s lies and further obstruct the investigation? #LindseyGrahamResign https://t.co/oBjaym3oKi— George Takei (@GeorgeTakei) May 14, 2019
Graham, who was first elected to the Senate in 2002, is running for re-election in 2020.
BREAKING: Graham’s office responds to #LindseyGrahamResign in the weirdest way possible: Graham’s spokesman said “No Collusion. No Obstruction. No Resignation.” Seems like no matter what, Graham wants to stick to Trump’s talking points. What a coward. https://t.co/JLyMMT10iU— Scott Dworkin (@funder) May 14, 2019
