.@GOPChairwoman: We are celebrating the anniversary, 75 years of D-Day. This is the time where we should be celebrating our President, the great achievements of America, and I don't think the American people like the constant negativity. pic.twitter.com/FpGWbGMuX7— GOP (@GOP) June 5, 2019
Celebrate? Allied casualties were at least 10,000, with 4,414 confirmed dead. Yay!!!!! WTF @GOPChairwoman ??!!— Cheri Jacobus (@CheriJacobus) June 6, 2019
How dare you? My father was a WW2 veteran. Donald Trump is a draft dodger and you’re a pathetic propagandist. You disrespect all of the brave men and women who served. Disgusting. The GOP has become a lying cesspool.— Fred Wellman (@FPWellman) June 6, 2019
Um… no. That is not at all what the day is for and never has been for any President. We understand that he requires everything to be about him. That is exactly the problem. He’s mentally ill and unfit for office and yet you and your colleagues continue to support this behavior.— Steve Blum (@blumspew) June 6, 2019
never in history have so many people surrendered their souls in service to someone so undeserving— shauna (@goldengateblond) June 6, 2019
That’s not what this is about. That’s not what any of this is about.— RichardMarini (@RichardMarini) June 6, 2019
You say some incredible stupid things, some times.— HS T-bird 95 (@HSchouten) June 6, 2019
We are observing D-Day, not celebrating it.
We are honoring those who served during WWII and those who died in Normandy.
There is no reason whatsoever that we need to celebrate the President today. We are not North Korea.
The 75th anniversary is a reminder that we need to constantly fight authoritarian politics.— NJ Mortgage Man (@DougHutchins77) June 6, 2019
I can believe that she said this. I cannot, for the life of me, believe that the GOP thought this insane comment was actually worth highlighting.— Brad Reed (@bwreed) June 5, 2019
Embarrassing…Confirms one of the many reasons why I became an Independent in 2016.— william donahue (@Bill_J_Donahue) June 6, 2019
I don’t understand what the hell happened to that party. It’s as if somehow in 2016 they all dropped acid at the same time, but a few of us got a placebo instead. They used to at least pretend to fight for freedom, conservatism, liberty, and small government. They used to viciously oppose authoritarian leadership, and vilify people like Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin not kiss their ass.
Trump has driven the GOP so far off the deep end they are never coming back. What’s worse is this is voluntary. People aren’t saying these crazy things with guns to their heads. People are worshiping at the altar of Trump by choice.
When every holiday becomes a celebration of dear leader, we’ve clearly lost our way. The values and principles that our parents and grandparents stormed the beaches at Normandy to protect and liberate 75 years ago may be long gone but we can at least use a day like today to remember what we once cherished and fought for as a nation.
