Trump Administration’s Creation of Commission of Unalienable Rights Is the Height of Hypocrisy

Snip

In the clip Secretary of State Mike Pompeo mentions being advised on the principles of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human rights. A document created by the United Nations General Assembly after World War II as a set of standards for all nations and how they are to treat people as a universal standard.

The Universal Declaration of Human rights contains 30 articles outlining very descriptive expectations about how all persons should be treated around the world by governing nations.

I found a few of these particularly interesting considering the Trump Administration’s opposing views on many of these very issues.

Article 2

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Article 2 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 5

No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Article 5 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 9

No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Article 9 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

We are detaining asylum seekers, but trump likes to pretend they are Illegal immigrants.

The U.S. government’s current policy of choice is to lock up asylum seekers—including families with young children—in immigration detention centers.

Immigration Detention – Human Rights First

The tweet below shows violations of both article 5, 9 and 25.

Article 10 & 13 & 14

Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him.

Article 10 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.
(2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.

Article 13 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 14 applies to many instances cited already.

1) Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.
(2) This right may not be invoked in the case of prosecutions genuinely arising from non-political crimes or from acts contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

Article 14 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

New policies are forcing some Asylum seekers to stay in Mexico. The Administration is trying to deny Immigration lawyers entry into Mexico to help them. Lawyers that do make it are also being denied access to their clients.

Again people are being detained by the Trump administration for requesting asylum, which is not a crime, anywhere in the world.

Article 25

(1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
(2) Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.

Article 25 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Of course Trump scoffs at the reports and calls them Fake News and then tries to blame the minority party in government, instead of actually trying to address this serious issue like a normal compassionate human being.

Article 19

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Article 19 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 24

Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay

Article 24 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

This is probably the one Trump likes the most.

Thoughts

I have barely scratched the surface of the potential and real human rights violations from the Trump administration. I find it suspect at best that after all of these flagrant violations, that they would even pretend to set up such a commision; and then to specifically mention a document which has clearly never been read by anyone serving this President blows my mind.

My best guess is that this is some sort of half hearted attempt at pretending they are “working on a solution” as something to to trot out before the elections.

I’ve never witnessed Trump sincerely give a flying fig about anything that wasn’t directly related to his own self interest. Ever. He has zero sense of humility, compassion or humanity.

If there was any clearer reason why this President shouldn’t be removed from office immediately I’m all ears. What has he done besides totally destroy everything this country is supposed to stand for and embrace the ideals of our moral enemies and dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un?

Trump has never met a human right he didn’t want to violate.
